If you’ve been wondering:

“should I update my Linkedin profile to show that I have left a company?”

…know it’s a personal decision with a few things to consider 🙂

Think of your whole career experience and what you want to do in the future and use this as a guide on what words to use (make sure you include jargon that employers will use).

We’ve tips on that in the Linkedin Style book (get the first 10 pages by signing up for our Digital Style News below or here).

Here are other considerations:

Should I update my Linkedin profile to show that I have left a company?

It depends… here’s a couple of things to consider:

1. Representing your truth – there are lots of blogposts online suggesting to change (straight away) your current position to no longer working there.

2. Personal Branding – I’ve worked with and researched lots of professionals who are exceptional at personal branding/marketing. They may be hustling a lot to find their next job and choose to not show they have left a company. Their Summary showcases them as an expert in their industry, keen to contribute to innovation in the industry,… they’ve words that sound enticing, collaborative, professional and wise.

Make sure your LinkedIn profile basics are in place too. Here is a cheat sheet reference we published yesterday.

Go get that great next job & enjoy exploring your next step!
